Everything You Need to Know About Greenmarkets in Lower Manhattan

Warming temps bring more than just abundant sunlight and the promise of beach days: They also portend a season or two of fresh fruit, veggies and delectable local goods. That’s where Lower Manhattan’s greenmarkets come into play. From bakery items to crispy produce, these local markets are supplied with plenty of seasonal goodies for your fridge and pantry that will make you a happier, healthier New Yorker.

Here’s a list of where to find them, and please remember to bring your own reusable totes!

Fulton Stall Market

This 91 South Street brick-and-mortar shop (between Fulton and John streets) is open Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and has local products from more than 100 farmers and specialty-food producers. Homemade soup, coffee and baked goods are available for purchase.

Fulton Stall’s outdoor market runs on Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and its CSA pick-up hours are Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Greenmarket on Oculus Plaza

Opening June 6 through November 21, this historic market on Oculus Plaza (at Westfield World Trade Center) hosts vendors on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. that range in specialties from orchard fruit to bread and baked goods to meats and cheeses.

Beyond its varied food options, the greenmarket offers cooking demos and seasonal celebrations. The market accepts cash, SNAP/EBT, debit/credit, WIC and senior FMNP coupons.

Tribeca Greenmarket

This one runs Wednesdays and Saturdays year-round on Greenwich Street between Chambers and Duane. Between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., neighbors get their fill of locally grown produce, meat, sheep’s milk, herbs and live plants. Cooking demonstrations, raffles and educational activities make the market enticing to shoppers of all ages.

Additionally, the market participates in GrowNYC’s clothing collection and food scrap composting programs.

Bowling Green Greenmarket

Operating from April 4 through December 26, the Bowling Green greenmarket (at Whitehall St. and Broadway) is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. — giving locals a chance to load up on fresh fruit and veggies as well as fresh bread, quiche and pot pies.

The market also accepts cash, SNAP/EBT, debit/credit, Healthfirst OTC Plus and Humana Healthy Options insurance members (select plans), WIC & Senior FMNP coupons and Greenmarket Bucks.
