Ryan Maguire’s Hosts Bash for People Named Ryan, “No Bryans Allowed”

The friendly staff at Ryan Maguire’s Ale House (28 Cliff St.) entertained a swarm of New Yorkers last weekend — revelers all apparently named “Ryan.” The New York Times’ Alyson Krueger was on the scene, and reported that distributed fliers for the event spelled out the one simple rule in order to gain admittance: “First name must be Ryan . . . No Bryans allowed.”

More from the NYT:

. . . each guest had to show an ID to one of two doormen: Ryan Cousins, 32, a copywriter in Bushwick, Brooklyn, or Ryan Le, 24, a software engineer who lives in Hudson Yards in Manhattan.

Inside, partygoers were given identical name tags and encouraged to circulate. “Hi, Ryan, I’m Ryan,” was repeated throughout the pub.

The soiree was the second of the monthly Ryan Meetup, which first began in February and was launched by 26-year-old photographer Ryan Rose. “My ultimate dream is to have a giant Ryan convention,” she told Krueger. The gargantuan aspiration, Rose imagined, would reach such a critical mass of Ryans that it could naturally wrangle the likes of movie stars Gosling and Reynolds. “I just want all the Ryans to be together,” she added.

For now, the party plans to keep ryaning at Ryan Maguire’s in Lower Manhattan. But, since word spread like wildfire online and had brought out so many Ryans, the event organizers mentioned that the meetup may also need to expand to Ryan’s Daughter on the Upper East Side. The get-together is nothing short of a frivolous and charmingly inane concept, to be sure, but one that needn’t require much explanation. “A gathering where we all just have our name in common — it’s the most random, obscure, silly thing,” said an ophthalmologist named Ryan, who drove in from Stony Brook. “I mean, we are all wearing the exact same name tag. What more can you ask for?”

Read the entire story at the Times. The photos are a riot, too.
