If you find yourself strolling the Seaport, desperate for a touch of the Italian Riviera, you won’t have to go far. The Dimorae Home and Francis’ World collaboration at 190 Front St. — which is part of the Downtown Alliance’s RE:Store program — brings together two Brooklyn artists (by way of Italy) for an immersive pop-up experience celebrating the idea of home, through bright and colorful block-prints and tableware. For Giulia Dal Cerro, the founder of Dimorae Home, the chance to showcase her wares in a setting that felt homey and collaborative was a no-brainer.

Dimorae Home specializes in colorful tableware and accessories designed in America and made in Italy, featuring cheery prints inspired by nature, from tablecloths embroidered with sardines to brightly patterned Masonite placemats, coasters and more. The wares are arranged in intimate vignettes – tables set with flowers and Dal Cerro’s accessories, so customers can get a real sense of how the pieces play off each other and their surroundings. “I just wanted to try and recreate that atmosphere of staying around the table and spending time together,” she said. “These colorful pieces can make everyday life a little more special.” Arranged inside what used to be a pizzeria, Dal Cerro’s work sits alongside that of her collaborator, Francesca Furian of Francis’ World, whose colorful blockprints echo the joy found in Dal Cerro’s tabletop accessories.

It’s not just what’s inside the store that excites Dal Cerro, it’s also the neighborhood and the possibility for connecting with the residents who call the area home. The Seaport’s cobblestone streets are reminiscent of Europe and the area’s draw as a tourist destination is a boon for business. “It’s in a bubble. It doesn’t look like Manhattan at all,” she said. “Even while we were working on the shop, people were so welcoming. They were curious and really welcomed us. And I loved it.”

For visitors to the Seaport, Dimorae Home’s space is a respite from the hustle and bustle of the waterfront, a place to sit down and experience the beauty of Italian hospitality, one placemat or glass of prosecco at a time. And to keep those people coming back for more than just tableware, Dal Cerro has a few events up her sleeve, including a blockprint workshop led by her collaborator and for her, an aperitivo hour where people can embroider their own placemats and enjoy each other’s company. “I really wanted to bring a little piece of my Italian life into my new American world,” Dal Cerro said. “For me, home has always been more about a feeling than an actual place.”

Dimorae Home and Francis’ World: Living With Art is open Wednesday through Sunday 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
