SUMMARY:Boris Lurie: Nothing To Do But To Try
DESCRIPTION:Boris Lurie: Nothing To Do But To Try is a first-of-its-kind exhibition on the 20th-century artist and Holocaust survivor Boris Lurie. Centered around his earliest work\, the so-called War Series\, as well as never-before-exhibited objects and ephemera from Lurie’s personal archive\, the exhibition presents a portrait of an artist reckoning with devastating trauma\, haunting memories\, and an elusive\, lifelong quest for freedom. In drawing together artistic practice and historical chronicle\, Boris Lurie: Nothing To Do But To Try is fertile new territory for the Museum of Jewish Heritage\, offering a survivor’s searing visual testimony within a significant art historical context. The Museum is open Wednesday\, Thursday\, and Sunday from 11 AM – 7 PM ET through October 17. The Museum is closed on Jewish holidays and on Thanksgiving. As of October 18\, the Museum will be open Sunday and Wednesday: 10 AM to 5 PM; Thursday\, 10 AM to 8 PM; and Friday\, 10 AM to 3 PM.

SUMMARY:Ted Seides on "Capital Allocators: How the World's Elite Money Managers Lead and Invest"
DESCRIPTION:The chief endowment officers at foundations\, family offices\, pension funds and sovereign wealth funds are the leaders in the world of finance. They marshal trillions of dollars on behalf of their institutions and influence how capital flows throughout the world. But these elite investors live outside of the public eye. Across the entire investment industry\, few participants understand how these holders of the keys to the kingdom allocate their time and their capital. What’s more\, there is no formal training for how to do their work. So\, how do these influential leaders practice their craft? How do they make investment decisions on everything from hiring managers to portfolio construction? Join us for an afternoon webinar with author Ted Seides as he discusses his new book\, Capital Allocators\, with Jonathan Brolin\, founder and managing partner of Edenbrook Capital LLC\, on this opaque corner of the investment landscape.

SUMMARY:Architecture with Chinese Characteristics: How the Past is Driving New Ideas for China’s Future Cities
DESCRIPTION:Join top architects and urban thinkers for a wide-ranging discussion on China’s cities of the future. For decades\, China’s planners focused on tearing down the old\, and building the new in order to fuel the nation’s rapid development. Glistening cities rose\, while psychological and social costs took a back seat. Today\, as China struts more confidently on the world stage\, its architects are reaching back to Chinese tradition to reinvent urban planning—and redefine what it means to be modern.
