DESCRIPTION:Boris Lurie: Nothing To Do But To Try is a first-of-its-kind exhibition on the 20th-century artist and Holocaust survivor Boris Lurie. Centered around his earliest work\, the so-called War Series\, as well as never-before-exhibited objects and ephemera from Lurie’s personal archive\, the exhibition presents a portrait of an artist reckoning with devastating trauma\, haunting memories\, and an elusive\, lifelong quest for freedom. In drawing together artistic practice and historical chronicle\, Boris Lurie: Nothing To Do But To Try is fertile new territory for the Museum of Jewish Heritage\, offering a survivor’s searing visual testimony within a significant art historical context. The Museum is open Wednesday\, Thursday\, and Sunday from 11 AM – 7 PM ET through October 17. The Museum is closed on Jewish holidays and on Thanksgiving. As of October 18\, the Museum will be open Sunday and Wednesday: 10 AM to 5 PM; Thursday\, 10 AM to 8 PM; and Friday\, 10 AM to 3 PM.

Join the Museum for a conversation with von Furstenberg about her identity as the daughter of survivors and how it has informed her remarkable career at the helm of one of the world’s most recognizable brands. She will be in conversation with Dr. Eva Fogelman\, renowned psychologist and author of the Pulitzer Prize-nominated book Conscience and Courage: Rescuers of Jews During the Holocaust.

SUMMARY:Virtual Walking Tour: Jewish Florence
DESCRIPTION:Florence is an incredible kaleidoscope of cultures\, faiths\, and languages. It’s believed that Jews lived in Florence since the 13th century\, however\, they were first officially documented there in 1437\, when the Republic called upon a group of resident Jews to restructure their “banchi” (banks)\, as Jews often were at that time offered certain communal benefits in exchange for serving as interfaith money lenders given the Christian ban on usury. Join the Museum of Jewish Heritage and Our Travel Circle on a tour of Jewish Florence. Our walk begins in Roman times\, when Jews and Christians were both viewed as foreigners and strangers to the pagan Roman Empire. See the original site of the very first Jewish Temple on our way to the Piazza della Repubblica\, the site of the now-destroyed Ghetto\, and Signoria Square\, which is famous for its statues. With a special cameo by the David and more\, this tour is bound to dazzle.

It was the first of many agricultural colonies founded by Jews who fled the Russian Empire’s persecution especially. When Javier Sinay discovered an article recounting twenty-two murders in Moisés Ville\, written by his great-grandfather\, a book was born. The discovery sent Sinay on a journey to discover the town’s turbulent past and his family’s history within it. Join the Museum for a discussion with Sinay about his book\, The Murders of Moisés Ville: The Rise and Fall of the Jerusalem of South America\, where he will talk with cultural anthropologist Dr. Natasha Zaretsky.
