SUMMARY:Transforming Moments: A Conversation With Diane Von Furstenberg
DESCRIPTION:Before she was an international fashion icon and a member of the TIME 100\, Diane von Furstenberg was a young girl growing up with parents who had just survived the Holocaust. Her father\, originally from Moldova\, escaped the Nazis in Switzerland. Her mother\, originally from Greece\, fought the Nazis as a member of the resistance until she was captured and sent to Auschwitz. Join the Museum for a conversation with von Furstenberg about her identity as the daughter of survivors and how it has informed her remarkable career at the helm of one of the world’s most recognizable brands. She will be in conversation with Dr. Eva Fogelman\, renowned psychologist and author of the Pulitzer Prize-nominated book Conscience and Courage: Rescuers of Jews During the Holocaust.

SUMMARY:Shall Make\, Shall Be: The Bill of Rights at Play
DESCRIPTION:Presentation of a curatorial project which invited 10 independent artists and game designers to create playable artworks themed around the individual amendments in the Bill of Rights\, drawing on their effects\, interpretations\, and legal meanings in U.S. culture. On September 25\, 1789\, 12 Amendments to the still fledgling U.S. Constitution were enacted at Federal Hall by the first Congress. Sent to the States for ratification\, ten would be approved and become known as the Bill of Rights. Stewarded by Representative James Madison\, this codification of individual rights\, was an integral compromise for the unification of the United States. Alongside this history\, is the recognition and duty to communicate that this exhibit sits on Lenapehoking: a land stolen from the Indigenous Lenape peoples who continue to live in New York City and beyond. These works are intended to be understood as critical games\, using the mechanisms of play to interrogate\, critique\, and inform common understanding of civil liberties in the 21st Century.

SUMMARY:The Steve Turre Sextet
DESCRIPTION:Over the course of a remarkable career spanning more than five decades\, virtuoso Steve Turre has proven he is one of the foremost masters of the trombone and a pioneer of using seashells as musical instruments. In addition to performing with the Saturday Night Live Band and the Mingus Big Band\, jazz icon Turre has performed with numerous preeminent artists including Ray Charles\, Art Blakey\, Dizzy Gillespie\, McCoy Tyner\, Herbie Hancock\, Tito Puente\, and more. This performance presents works from his album The Very Thought Of You\, on which Turre shows off a less celebrated side of his brilliant artistry: his moving\, heartfelt way with a ballad. Luxuriating in timeless melodies\, Turre makes his horn sing with delicate lyricism and subtle beauty.
