SUMMARY:Transforming Moments: A Conversation With Diane Von Furstenberg
DESCRIPTION:Before she was an international fashion icon and a member of the TIME 100\, Diane von Furstenberg was a young girl growing up with parents who had just survived the Holocaust. Her father\, originally from Moldova\, escaped the Nazis in Switzerland. Her mother\, originally from Greece\, fought the Nazis as a member of the resistance until she was captured and sent to Auschwitz. Join the Museum for a conversation with von Furstenberg about her identity as the daughter of survivors and how it has informed her remarkable career at the helm of one of the world’s most recognizable brands. She will be in conversation with Dr. Eva Fogelman\, renowned psychologist and author of the Pulitzer Prize-nominated book Conscience and Courage: Rescuers of Jews During the Holocaust.

SUMMARY:Shall Make\, Shall Be: The Bill of Rights at Play
DESCRIPTION:Presentation of a curatorial project which invited 10 independent artists and game designers to create playable artworks themed around the individual amendments in the Bill of Rights\, drawing on their effects\, interpretations\, and legal meanings in U.S. culture. On September 25\, 1789\, 12 Amendments to the still fledgling U.S. Constitution were enacted at Federal Hall by the first Congress. Sent to the States for ratification\, ten would be approved and become known as the Bill of Rights. Stewarded by Representative James Madison\, this codification of individual rights\, was an integral compromise for the unification of the United States. Alongside this history\, is the recognition and duty to communicate that this exhibit sits on Lenapehoking: a land stolen from the Indigenous Lenape peoples who continue to live in New York City and beyond. These works are intended to be understood as critical games\, using the mechanisms of play to interrogate\, critique\, and inform common understanding of civil liberties in the 21st Century.

SUMMARY:“My Name Is Sara” Film Premiere and Reception
DESCRIPTION:The film My Name Is Sara is based on the true story of 13-year-old Sara Goralnik. After escaping a ghetto in German-occupied Poland and losing her family at the outset of the Holocaust\, Sara hid in plain sight\, passing as an Orthodox Christian in the Ukrainian countryside\, where she was taken in by a farmer and his young wife. Sara soon discovered the dark secrets of her employers’ marriage\, compounding the greatest secret she had to protect: her identity. Attend the pre-screening reception followed by the premiere of this award-winning film\, produced in association with USC Shoah Foundation. The screening will be accompanied by a discussion with the star of the film\, Zuzanna Surowy; the film’s director\, Steven Oritt; and the film’s Executive Producers Mickey Shapiro—whose mother’s story is the inspiration for the film—and Andy Intrater. The conversation will be moderated by Jessica Shaw\, host of The Pop Culture Spotlight on SiriusXM.

SUMMARY:Building the Brooklyn Bridge\, 1869-1883: An Illustrated History with Images in 3D
DESCRIPTION:In Building the Brooklyn Bridge\, 1869-1883: An Illustrated History with Images in 3D\, JEFFREY RICHMAN\, Green-Wood Cemetery’s historian and collector of 19th-century New Yorkiana has created a fresh book on a very familiar New York icon. Richman has assembled stereoview and lantern slide photographs of the bridge under construction\, as well as woodcuts and other memorabilia\, collaborated with other historians and collectors\, and mined public archives for unpublished material and one-of-a-kind drawings and specifications to tell the story of how the Brooklyn Bridge came into being. The writer Kurt Andersen calls the book “a perfect feast\, a would-be time-traveler’s delight\, overflowing with rare and evocative and fascinating images.”
