SUMMARY:Transforming Moments: A Conversation With Diane Von Furstenberg
DESCRIPTION:Before she was an international fashion icon and a member of the TIME 100\, Diane von Furstenberg was a young girl growing up with parents who had just survived the Holocaust. Her father\, originally from Moldova\, escaped the Nazis in Switzerland. Her mother\, originally from Greece\, fought the Nazis as a member of the resistance until she was captured and sent to Auschwitz. Join the Museum for a conversation with von Furstenberg about her identity as the daughter of survivors and how it has informed her remarkable career at the helm of one of the world’s most recognizable brands. She will be in conversation with Dr. Eva Fogelman\, renowned psychologist and author of the Pulitzer Prize-nominated book Conscience and Courage: Rescuers of Jews During the Holocaust.

SUMMARY:Virtual Walking Tour: Jewish Valencia
DESCRIPTION:Join the Museum and Our Travel Circle to virtually explore the Jewish heritage of Valencia\, the third-largest city in Spain. We will discuss the early history of the community during the Muslim period\, when several notable Jewish figures including the poet and philosopher Solomon ibn Gabirol lived in the city. We will also discover the Jewish Quarter of Valencia\, which was one of the largest Jewish Quarters in the Iberian Peninsula and held a cemetery and a number of synagogues. Our guide will tell us the story of the attack on the Jewish community in 1391\, which led many Jews to convert to Christianity or flee the city. Lastly\, we will uncover the history of the conversos in Valencia\, many of whom sailed to points east to return to Judaism.

SUMMARY:Modern Jewish Sounds Concert: Dida Pelled
DESCRIPTION:Brooklyn-based\, Native Tel-Avivian\, Dida Pelled\, is widely regarded as the greatest jazz guitarist this side of the Mississippi. Pelled’s ambitions took shape as a child\, when\, entranced by bebop\, she sequestered herself from the world and resolved to master guitar\, later earning a spot in the Israeli Army band before training at the New School on a scholarship to study jazz. She quickly made a name for herself in the New York jazz scene\, recording with Jazz masters like Roy Hargrove and Gregory Hutchinson and touring the world. As her jazz star rose\, Pelled felt a pull toward classic American songwriting\, shifting her direction and redefining her voice. Love Of The Tiger\, Pelled’s upcoming album\, is the product of a jazz prodigy gone rogue.

SUMMARY:“Pink Triangles Legacies” Book Talk
DESCRIPTION:This LGBTQ+ History Month\, the Museum is celebrating the release of Dr. Jake Newsome’s new book Pink Triangle Legacies: Coming Out in the Shadow of the Holocaust.
