SUMMARY:Intersections: 50 Years of Hip Hop & the WTC
DESCRIPTION:Intersections examines the often-surprising connections between 9/11 and today’s world. From global industries to individual lives\, the attacks sparked a fundamental shift for many\, altering trajectories in ways both expected and unforeseen. Our public programs explore these diverse shifts and lend visibility to the continuing legacy of 9/11. Amid one of New York City’s most tumultuous decades\, 1973 saw both the dedication of the World Trade Center and the birth of Hip Hop. As we look at 9/11’s impact across culture\, we mark this twin milestone 50 years later with Dr. MC Debbie D\, Hip Hop historian and pioneer MC; Chuck Creekmur\, CEO of AllHipHop.com; and Rocky Bucano\, Executive Director of the Universal Hip Hop Museum.Together in conversation with Museum Director Clifford Chanin\, they reflect on the history of Hip Hop\, the evolution of the genre in a post-9/11 world\, and how New York City and its ever-changing skyline influenced the artistic movement that now spans the globe.

SUMMARY:Walk With Me Film Screening

Together we will follow the emotional journey of a young mother who leaves her husband to find her own footing in the world and stumbles into unexpected love with another woman. Walk With Me has won multiple awards at festivals worldwide and has enjoyed a successful digital release with Gravitas Ventures. Before the screening\, the audience is invited to enjoy a live performance of some of the film’s 16 original songs written by Juno-nominated singer-songwriter Amanda Walther. A short Q&A will follow the screening\, with leading lady Devin Dunne Cannon\, writer and director Isabel del Rosal\, and cast member Catrina Ganey.

SUMMARY:Set It Off
DESCRIPTION:Film screening outdoors. Former bank teller Frankie (Viveca A. Fox) is struggling to make ends meet\, working a low-paying job as a janitor alongside close friends Cleo (Queen Latifah)\, Stony (Jada Pinkett Smith)\, and T.T. (Kimberly Elise) in mid-’90s Los Angeles. When the four women\, angered and demoralized by the status quo of relentless injustice that curtails and undermines their aspirations\, set about systematically robbing banks around the city\, complications soon arise in the disparate forms of their tyrannical boss (Thomas Jefferson Byrd)\, an unsympathetic LAPD detective (John C. McGinley)\, and a budding romance between Stony and a charming bank manager (Blair Underwood).
