SUMMARY:pleytem tsuzamen: Refugees Together
DESCRIPTION:National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene and the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust bring together – for two performances only – some of the most renowned Yiddish musicians from across the globe for the American premiere of the new Yiddish theatrical concert pleytem tsuzamen (Refugees Together). A star-studded cast of master singers from across the world – Ukraine\, Latvia\, Berlin\, England\, and the Americas – will perform a contemporary musical commentary on what it means to be a refugee\, weaving a defiant garment of hope in a threatening and threatened world. “pleytem tsuzamen” (Refugees Together) is a call for solidarity with those who are most threatened. Confronting our current reality\, these new Yiddish songs present a dynamic fusion of traditional forms with the social\, political\, and personal challenges posed by the world today — and they embody the power of music to foster the courage we need to “link arms and take to the streets together against bloodshed and hatred.” Second performance at 6pm.

SUMMARY:The History of Antisemitism: The Alhambra Decree
DESCRIPTION:Delve into the events leading up to the Alhambra Decree and what happened to the Jewish community in the wake of the edict in this panel discussion. On March 31\, 1492\, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain issued the Alhambra Decree\, also known as the Edict of Expulsion\, which gave Jews until the end of July to leave the country or convert to Catholicism. Some chose to convert and practice Judaism in secret\, but many were forced to leave their homeland behind. Those who did stay risked being tortured and killed by the Spanish Inquisition\, which had been established in 1478.

SUMMARY:The Forward Presents: “Playing Anne Frank”
DESCRIPTION:In person and livestreamed. The Diary of Anne Frank\, which debuted on Broadway in 1955 and then later toured the country\, was one of the most influential plays of the 20th century. A life-changing experience for many of those who saw it\, the play introduced millions of Americans to the Holocaust and its victims. But what did reenacting Anne’s story mean to the people who created and acted in the play or the 1959 film? How did dramatizing her life affect their lives and careers? Who were they? Using archival material and interviews with surviving cast and crew members\, Forward executive editor Adam Langer\, whose latest work is Cyclorama\, presents a story in “Playing Anne Frank\,” a limited series podcast from the Forward\, that’s never been told: the backstory of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play and Oscar-winning film\, and how this iconic work shapes those involved in performing it — including high school students putting the show on today. The event will include live elements from the podcast and appearances by members of the 1955 Broadway production.

SUMMARY:Power and Prediction: The Disruptive Economics of Artificial Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence (AI) has impacted many industries around the world—banking and finance\, pharmaceuticals\, automotive\, medical technology\, manufacturing and retail. But it has only just begun its odyssey toward cheaper\, better and faster predictions that drive strategic business decisions. When prediction is taken to the max\, industries transform\, and with such transformation comes disruption. What is at the root of this? In their bestselling first book\, Prediction Machines\, eminent economists Ajay Agrawal\, Joshua Gans and Avi Goldfarb explained the simple yet game-changing economics of AI. Now\, in Power and Prediction\, they go deeper\, examining the most basic unit of analysis: the decision. The authors explain that the two key decision-making ingredients are prediction and judgment\, and we perform both together in our minds\, often without realizing it. The rise of AI is shifting prediction from humans to machines\, relieving people from this cognitive load while increasing the speed and accuracy of decisions.
