SUMMARY:Herstorical Happy Hour: Petticoats\, Patriots & Punch - 250th Program
DESCRIPTION:Interactive craft cocktail class hosted by pop historian\, comedian and certified mixologist\, Jacey Powers. This unique event combines one-part humor\, one-part history and shakes them up for a perfectly blended celebration of fascinating women in history\, worthy of raising a glass to. From women on the battlefield\, to nurses at camps; from authors inspiring the masses to ladies posing as spies–many of the unsung heroes of the American Revolution wore corsets rather than tricorne hats. The stories of Phyllis Wheatley\, Mercy Otis Warren\, Margaret Cochran Corbin\, Mammy Kate and more will unfold during our high-energy happy hour. We’ll be mixing up a contemporary take on Martha Washington’s famous Revolutionary Rum Punch\, while learning about the drinking culture of colonial Americans.

SUMMARY:Women Architects at Work: Making American Modernism
DESCRIPTION:In the interwar decades\, American architecture schools enrolled increasing numbers of women. But as architectural historians Mary Anne Hunting and Kevin D. Murphy recount in their book Women Architects at Work\, professional success did not come easily. Focusing on the Cambridge School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture in Massachusetts and several coeducational architecture schools\, Hunting and Murphy profile women designers who pursued careers in architecture\, describing how these innovative practitioners leveraged social\, educational\, and professional ties to achieve success and address social concerns. Some joined women-led architectural firms\, while others partnered with men or contributed to Modernism as retailers of household furnishings\, writers and educators\, photographers and designers\, or fine artists.

SUMMARY:“Artificial: A Love Story” Book Talk
DESCRIPTION:How do we relate to—and hold—our family’s past? Is it through technology? Through spirit? Art\, poetry\, music? Or is it through the resonances we look for in ourselves? In Artificial\, we meet the Kurzweils\, a family of creators who are preserving their history through unusual means. At the center is renowned inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil\, who has long been saving the documents of his deceased father\, Fredric\, an accomplished conductor and pianist from Vienna who fled the Nazis in 1938. Once\, Fred’s life was saved by his art: an American benefactor\, impressed by Fred’s musical genius\, sponsored his emigration to the United States just before Kristallnacht. Now\, Fred has returned. Through AI and salvaged writing\, Ray is building a chatbot that writes in Fred’s voice\, and he enlists his daughter\, cartoonist Amy Kurzweil\, to help him ensure the immortality of their family’s fraught inheritance. Amy’s deepening understanding of her family’s traumatic uprooting resonates with the creative life she fights to claim in the present\, as Amy and her partner\, Jacob\, chase jobs\, and each other\, across the country. Kurzweil evokes an understanding of accomplishment that centers conversation and connection\, knowing and being known by others.

SUMMARY:LMNE
DESCRIPTION:LMNE spent many years of his youth being moved between three continents\, raised in Senegal\, France\, and the United States\, thus developing a unique perspective on what life’s journey entails in different parts of the world. He developed a rare set of musical ears\, privy to the most magical sounds of each continent. LMNE’s first instrument was his voice\, but it wasn’t long before the piano and guitar followed. Music became LMNE’s way to tell these incredible stories of the people he’s met and the places he’s lived. He doesn’t consider himself a singer so much as a storyteller\, using his music to share poignant moments\, emotions\, and experiences.
