SUMMARY:Morgan & Enzo's Batshit Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Are you too hardcore for the current state of American letters? The tragic truth is that most new books seem afraid to shock\, experiment\, offend\, get weird. Is there still a place in this world for the freaky girlies? The answer is yes. Morgan and Enzo are two booksellers at McNally Jackson Seaport who delight in the decadent\, the debased\, and the degenerate. Now\, they open their private reading circle to the last libertines in New York. This won’t be a cozy time by the fireplace. We don’t talk to Reese Witherspoon. We don’t know Oprah. This is Batshit Book Club\, and baby\, there will be no seatbelts.

SUMMARY:The March
DESCRIPTION:What happens when we dance together? And what happens when we don’t? An evening of contemporary dance in three parts\, presented in-the-round. Created by an intergenerational trio of acclaimed choreographers\, Tendayi Kuumba (recently seen in David Byrne’s American Utopia and For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf)\, Big Dance Theater co-founder Annie-B Parson (David Byrne’s American Utopia)\, and Guggenheim Fellow Donna Uchizono (State of Heads) who have joined forces to interrogate our very human compulsion to move together in time. How does it change us\, shape us\, deepen us\, and lift us? How has it been used\, weaponized\, sexualized\, and politicized? What is the power of moving in precise unison? What happens when we dance together? And what happens when we don’t?

SUMMARY:“The Last Ships from Hamburg” Book Talk with Steven Ujifusa and Chip Fisher
DESCRIPTION:In The Last Ships from Hamburg: Business\, Rivalry\, and the Race to Save Russia’s Jews on the Eve of World War I\, bestselling historian Steven Ujifusa tells the largely forgotten\, colorful story of three remarkable businessmen who\, driven by very different motives\, made much of this immigration possible and forever changed the fate of millions. They were: Jacob Schiff\, managing partner of the investment bank Kuhn\, Loeb & Company who used his immense wealth to help Jews to leave Europe; Albert Ballin\, managing director of the Hamburg-American Line who created a transportation network of trains and steamships; and the notorious J.P. Morgan\, mastermind of the International Mercantile Marine (I.M.M.) trust who tried to take over the lucrative steamship business. With often contradictory goals\, these titans of industry forged powerful alliances and compelling rivalries.

SUMMARY:From Darkness to Light: A Family Sand Art Performance
DESCRIPTION:Families are invited to a unique visual and auditory experience\, inspired by the Museum of Jewish Heritage’s new exhibit Courage to Act: Rescue in Denmark. Ukrainian-Jewish sand artist and singer Zhenya Lopatnik will take families on a breathtaking visual journey\, sharing the story of how Denmark saved around 7\,500 Jewish people during the Holocaust. The mesmerizing shadow-and-light show will bring children and adults to another dimension\, where one picture transforms into another. Accompanied by a performance of Jewish niggunim (wordless melodies)\, attendees can sing and hum along as they follow the characters’ development as the story moves. Afterwards\, kids will have a chance to create sand-art pieces and play with shadow and light.
