SUMMARY:Jake Owen and Mark McIntyre
DESCRIPTION:Jake Owen and Mark McIntyre have been cultivating their friendship and musical unity in New York City since meeting in the downtown art-rock scene in 2015. Since then\, they have been developing their rare guitar symbiosis and taste for adventurous songwriting in off-hours recording sessions and through Mark’s long-term residency at the 55 Bar in Greenwich Village. Together\, they craft a new sound that lives somewhere between hypnotic Radiohead-style grooves\, Elliot Smith’s thoughtful intimacy\, and the electric spontaneity of Jimi Hendrix.

SUMMARY:Debut Novel 101
DESCRIPTION:McNally Jackson’s Publishing 101 series aims to demystify the publishing process through conversations with industry professionals who have seen it all. For our second event\, we welcome Laura McGrath\, Randy Winston\, and Isaac Fitzgerald to discuss all things “debut novel” — from building your byline and securing a publisher to promoting your book and “breaking out.” These days\, it can seem like debut novels are make-it-or-break-it — the projects against which all subsequent novels will be measured. Will you earn out your advance? Will your book receive coverage in national newspapers? Will mass retailers carry your book? All of these things are outside an author’s control\, but there are a few key steps you can take to boost your debut — and to make your first experience in publishing a positive one.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the release of Like a Hammer: Poets on Mass Incarceration\, Haymarket Books’ anthology of writers speaking on the United States prison-industrial complex. Contributors Randall Horton\, Angel Nafis\, and Evie Shockley read powerful poems of witness which seek to address the oppressive systems that make up the US prison-industrial complex. Like A Hammer explores how art and imagination can serve as vehicles for endurance\, offering us the hope to envision a better future. As part of this event\, there will be a screening of a selection of films co-produced by the Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation. These short films showcase Randall Horton\, Evie Shockley and others\, performing their own work\, and in some cases\, sharing the work of an incarcerated peer poet\, from the Like a Hammer anthology.

SUMMARY:Path to Liberty: The Emergence of a Nation
DESCRIPTION:Opening day of a new exhibition. Fraunces Tavern was a witness to history throughout the Revolutionary War Era. Among the many historic events that took place there\, Fraunces Tavern served as a meeting place for the Sons of Liberty\, a site for trials that were part of a process that led to the emancipation of thousands of Black Loyalists\, and the setting for Washington’s farewell to his officers. Two hundred fifty years later\, Fraunces Tavern Museum will honor this history with a new special exhibition: Path to Liberty: The Emergence of a Nation. Commemorating the United States Semiquincentennial\, Path to Liberty will be a chronological\, multi-year exhibition telling the history of the American Revolution from 1775 to 1783\, with a distinctive focus on what occurred in New York State and the surrounding areas.

Stop by anytime between 5pm and 8pm for a free self-guided exploration of the three-floor exhibition that highlights how New York City\, as we know it today\, arose from the sea. From 5:30pm to 7:30pm\, enjoy a live performance by musician and songwriter Blair Lamb\, who will fill the first-floor gallery with beautiful piano and vocals.
