DESCRIPTION:Families are invited to a unique visual and auditory experience\, inspired by the Museum of Jewish Heritage’s new exhibit Courage to Act: Rescue in Denmark. Ukrainian-Jewish sand artist and singer Zhenya Lopatnik will take families on a breathtaking visual journey\, sharing the story of how Denmark saved around 7\,500 Jewish people during the Holocaust. The mesmerizing shadow-and-light show will bring children and adults to another dimension\, where one picture transforms into another. Accompanied by a performance of Jewish niggunim (wordless melodies)\, attendees can sing and hum along as they follow the characters’ development as the story moves.  Afterwards\, kids will have a chance to create sand-art pieces and play with shadow and light.

DESCRIPTION:In 1993\, Billings\, Montana was impacted by antisemitism and racism when white supremacists moved to the town. On the evening of December 2\, 1993\, someone threw a brick through the window of a 5-year-old Jewish boy\, Isaac Schnitzer\, who was displaying a menorah. After the Schitzer home was vandalized\, and inspired by the story of the Danish Rescue\, the Billings Gazette printed a picture of a menorah that many in the town placed in their own windows to show solidarity with the Jewish community. This act fighting against hate received enormous attention and has become an example of how to stand up against prejudice.

DESCRIPTION:Help to grow milk­weed\, a native peren­ni­al\, from seed along­side the team respon­si­ble for stew­ard­ing the Island’s land­scapes. Lend a hand while learn­ing about native plant prop­a­ga­tion and eco­log­i­cal gardening. This project involves fill­ing quart pots with pot­ting medi­um\, plac­ing milk­weed seeds into pots\, and stag­ing plant trays for win­ter strat­i­fi­ca­tion. No gar­den­ing expe­ri­ence is nec­es­sary; instruc­tion\, gloves\, and tools will be pro­vid­ed. Please dress for the weath­er\, as Month­ly Ser­vice Days are held entire­ly out­doors.
