SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: Fear City
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Kim Phillips-Fein discusses her book Fear City: New York’s Fiscal Crisis and the Rise of Austerity Politics. When the news broke that New York City was on the brink of fiscal collapse\, few believed it was possible. Yet\, the city was indeed billions of dollars in the red\, with no way to pay back its debts. Fear City tells the remarkable story of the financial crisis that engulfed the city\, permanently transformed New York\, and reshaped ideas about government across America.

SUMMARY:“We Will Dance Again” Screening and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Friendship\, love\, peace and freedom—these ideals drew young hearts from around the globe to Nova’s EDM music festival in the South of Israel. But as the sun rose on October 7th\, the fantasy shattered. Rockets sliced through the sky\, and the dancing stopped. We Will Dance Again is a stark portrayal of the experiences of those who survived and those who didn’t. The film meticulously reconstructs the events\, capturing the raw emotions and heroism that emerged. The screening of the film will be followed by a discussion with Shalev Bitton\, a survivor of the massacre at the Nova Festival\, and Yunnis Alkarnawi\, a Bedouin Israeli who saved Shalev and seven others from the Nova festival\, and also saved twenty-four Thai farm workers.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Seaport Museum and artists Sarah Cameron Sunde\, Carolyn Hall\, Clarinda Mac Low\, and Nancy Nowaceck\, representing Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Works on Water 2025 Triennial\, for an evening conversation exploring the intersections of maritime heritage and contemporary “Water Art.” As part of the discussion\, the artists will highlight Walking the Edge—a citywide project that invites New Yorkers to collectively walk all 520 miles of the city’s coastline. The growing genre of Water Art is an environmental art form of the 21st century\, exploring themes of access\, exploitation\, conservation\, remediation\, and care. Featured artists include Mary Mattingly\, Sarah Cameron Sunde\, and the Works on Water Art Collective. These works are on loan courtesy of their creators. A wine reception will follow the program.

SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Mercy-Eyed\, Down the Triple Highway: No Land and Anne Waldman
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the exhibit opening of Mercy-Eyed\, Down the Triple Highway\, join us for special performances and readings featuring No Land and Anne Waldman accompanied by musicians Oliver Ray on guitar and Geogia Wartel Collins on double bass. No Land and Anne Waldman met on the New York City street in 2012. Over the subsequent decade\, the two have gone on to create over 40 collaborative works\, ranging from the political to the etheric\, to the telepathic\, archival & off-planetary. Their collaborations have spanned the mediums of cinema\, photography\, poetry\, book-making\, performance\, and visual art. No Land’s delicate visual and written worlds evoke a transcendent immateriality\, while Waldman’s spells\, incantations\, and archival traces elicit an awakening for our time. In their wanderings from New York\, through the American West\, to Mexico and back since 2013\, the two evoke histories of bygone poets—Shelley\, Rimbaud\, Corso\, Maria Sabina\, Di Prima and beyond. Via devotional poem-texts\, travel notes\, scroll-paintings\, meditations in ink\, emulsion\, and typewriter rhythms\, No Land and Waldman dream into an inner state of seeking and active compassion\, bringing into being another kind of world.

SUMMARY:An All-of-Society Approach
DESCRIPTION:This is a conversation with Yair Rosenberg and Amy Spitalnick on uprooting antisemitism. Antisemitism fuels hate-filled conspiracy theories that not only drive people to commit horrible acts of violence but also undermine the very fabric of our nation. What we are seeing is a rise in violence against Jews that crosses political ideology and spectrums\, and the normalization of rising antisemitism sets a dangerous precedent. The story of Pittsburgh and what happened in the aftermath of the deadliest antisemitic attack in U.S. history offers our nation a way forward. Join Yair Rosenberg of The Atlantic for a conversation with Amy Spitalnick\, CEO of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs\, moderated by Carole Zawatsky\, CEO of The Tree of Life\, for a nuanced and engaging discussion.

SUMMARY:The Outlaws Who Built NYC Tour
DESCRIPTION:Forget the gangland clichés. This walking tour uncovers the radical\, corrupt\, and wildly enterprising figures who shaped New York City\, from pirate captains and Wall Street bombers to bank fraudsters\, rogue publishers\, and NYPD whistleblowers. It’s a crash course in how NYC was built not just by power and politics\, but by those who bent the rules\, challenged authority\, and sometimes blew things up. \nThis tour isn’t about mob bosses and speakeasies. It’s about the deeper\, dirtier truths behind the institutions that still define New York City today.
