SUMMARY:Fresh Prints
DESCRIPTION:This open house will feature a breadth of printing equipment that you will be invited to use. You’ll get to see how the designers at Bowne lock up limited edition designs that will showcase some of the more eccentric parts from the Seaport Museum’s printing and graphic arts collection. Established in 1775\, this letterpress print shop is the city’s oldest operating business under the same name. Today\, the shop continues the age-old tradition of job (or small batch) printing. Advanced registration is required for this free workshop but walkups will be accommodated as possible. Anyone ages 12 and up is welcome. All participants get to take home the items they print during the afternoon.

SUMMARY:Morgan & Enzo's Batshit Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Are you too hardcore for the current state of American letters? The tragic truth is that most new books seem afraid to shock\, experiment\, offend\, get weird. Is there still a place in this world for the freaky girlies? The answer is yes. Morgan and Enzo are two booksellers at McNally Jackson Seaport who delight in the decadent\, the debased\, and the degenerate. Now\, they open their private reading circle to the last libertines in New York. This won’t be a cozy time by the fireplace. We don’t talk to Reese Witherspoon. We don’t know Oprah. This is Batshit Book Club\, and baby\, there will be no seatbelts.

DESCRIPTION:Winding journey that unravels the darker past of the South Street Seaport Historic District and Lower Manhattan. This entertaining tour tells the scandalous\, dubious\, and sinister tales lurking in the cobblestone streets\, historic buildings\, and waterfront. You’ll also be able to test your “Ear for Crime” in an interactive game throughout the walk\, which even has a prize for the winner at the end of the tour. Meet your tour guide at Ryan Maguire’s Bar & Restaurant\, at 28 Cliff Street\, where one happy hour drink or soft drink is included in your registration for the tour. Come up to 30 minutes early and be treated to a few scandalous stories inspired by the historical images on view at the bar. Registration is required. Tours are rain or shine. Content is appropriate for fans of true crime stories\, those who are looking for unique New York experience\, and history-buffs aged 13 and up. SUMMARY:The March
DESCRIPTION:What happens when we dance together? And what happens when we don’t? An evening of contemporary dance in three parts\, presented in-the-round. Created by an intergenerational trio of acclaimed choreographers\, Tendayi Kuumba (recently seen in David Byrne’s American Utopia and For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf)\, Big Dance Theater co-founder Annie-B Parson (David Byrne’s American Utopia)\, and Guggenheim Fellow Donna Uchizono (State of Heads) who have joined forces to interrogate our very human compulsion to move together in time. How does it change us\, shape us\, deepen us\, and lift us? How has it been used\, weaponized\, sexualized\, and politicized? What is the power of moving in precise unison? What happens when we dance together? And what happens when we don’t?

SUMMARY:“The Last Ships from Hamburg” Book Talk with Steven Ujifusa and Chip Fisher
DESCRIPTION:In The Last Ships from Hamburg: Business\, Rivalry\, and the Race to Save Russia’s Jews on the Eve of World War I\, bestselling historian Steven Ujifusa tells the largely forgotten\, colorful story of three remarkable businessmen who\, driven by very different motives\, made much of this immigration possible and forever changed the fate of millions. They were: Jacob Schiff\, managing partner of the investment bank Kuhn\, Loeb & Company who used his immense wealth to help Jews to leave Europe; Albert Ballin\, managing director of the Hamburg-American Line who created a transportation network of trains and steamships; and the notorious J.P. Morgan\, mastermind of the International Mercantile Marine (I.M.M.) trust who tried to take over the lucrative steamship business. With often contradictory goals\, these titans of industry forged powerful alliances and compelling rivalries.

SUMMARY:Understanding Urban Warfare
DESCRIPTION:As Israel continues its war against Hamas in Gaza\, the challenges of conducting a military operation in one of the most densely populated areas in the world have become clear. To help us understand the characteristics and complexity of this conflict\, we are joined by Col. Liam Collins (ret.)\, former Director of the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point and co-author of Understanding Urban Warfare. In this conversation with Museum Director\, Clifford Chanin\, Col. Collins will discuss his career as a special forces officer\, the lessons learned from similar operations\, and the future of warfare in an increasingly urban world.
