SUMMARY:Maxim Osopv Presents Kilometer 101
DESCRIPTION:New conversation series between fiction and non-fiction writers\, in which writers discuss the ways in which they grapple with similar subject matter through different lenses\, and with different perspectives. The stories and essays in this volume—a follow-up to his debut in English\, Rock\, Paper\, Scissors—tackle major questions of modern life in and beyond Russia with Osipov’s trademark blend of daring and subtlety. Deceit\, political pressure\, ethnic discrimination\, the urge to emigrate\, and the fear of abandoning one’s home\, as well as myriad generational debts and conflicts\, are as complexly woven through these pieces as they are through the lives of Osipov’s fellow Russians and through our own. RSVP required.

SUMMARY:Virtual Walking Tour: Seville\, Spain
DESCRIPTION:Live\, virtual walking tour. Seville’s Santa Cruz quarter was formerly the city’s famous Jewish quarter. Its maze of streets and their evocative names give a good idea of what the city was like in 1492. During our live\, virtual tour\, we will stroll around the Calle de la Judería\, Callejón del Agua\, Plaza de la Alianza\, Marmoles the Roman Temple\, and more. Located in the center of Seville\, the charming\, whitewashed facades\, flowers\, and patios of Santa Cruz give a feel for daily life of Sepharad. We will also see a small remnant of the wall that surrounded the Jewish quarter\, and two of the city’s four synagogues that were converted into churches San Bartolomé and Santa María la Blanca.

SUMMARY:Virtual Walking Tour: Florence\, Italy
DESCRIPTION:The Jewish presence in Florence dates to at least 1437\, when the Florentine Republic called upon a group of resident Jews to restructure their banks to take over the indispensable function of lending money\, thereby saving Christian bankers – and their souls – from the damning sin of usury. On this live virtual tour\, we will walk the streets that date back to Roman times. See the original site of the very first Jewish Temple and the Piazza della Repubblica\, the former location of the now-destroyed ghetto. Finally\, see the crowning glory of the city’s Jewish community: the Grand Synagogue\, hailed as one of the most beautiful in Europe.
