DESCRIPTION:This open house will feature a breadth of printing equipment that you will be invited to use. You’ll get to see how the designers at Bowne lock up limited edition designs that showcase some of the more eccentric parts from the Seaport Museum’s printing and graphic arts collection. Established in 1775\, the original Bowne & Co.\, Inc. was one of New York’s oldest printing firms. The Bowne & Co. that you can experience today at the Seaport Museum is an offshoot of the original and continues the age-old tradition of job (or small batch) printing.

SUMMARY:Curator Talk: “Art of Freedom: The Life & Work of Arthur Szyk”
DESCRIPTION:Over his decades-long career as an artist\, Arthur Szyk emerged as a powerful voice in the fight for freedom\, justice\, and democracy. As a Polish-born Jew and an immigrant to the United States\, he advocated for European Jewry\, calling the world to action during the Holocaust while his anti-Nazi illustrations rallied Americans to the war effort. The Museum’s newest exhibition of Szyk’s stunning works\, Art of Freedom: The Life & Work of Arthur Szyk\, opens on December 7\, 2025. Join Irvin Ungar\, the world’s foremost expert on the art of Arthur Szyk and the tireless force behind the Szyk renaissance\, and Sara Softness\, the Museum’s Director of Curatorial Affairs\, for a discussion about the new exhibition and how it reveals the way creativity can be harnessed to fight for freedom and stand against antisemitism.

DESCRIPTION:Many talented artists of Asian descent helped define the vibrant art scene in downtown New York in the last decades of the 20th century\, including some in China Institute Gallery’s current exhibition\, Metamorphosis: Chinese Imagination and Transformation. Artists highlighted in this walk may include Ching Ho Cheng\, Chuang Che\, David Diao\, Ming Fay\, Tehching Hsieh\, Ma Hao\, Anna Sui\, Tan Dun\, Tseng Kwong Chi\, Muna Tseng\, and Martin Wong. The sites to be visited include where they exhibited\, worked\, and hung out with peers. The tour begins from the Lower East Side\, inside the Delancey St – Essex St subway station on the downtown F-Train platform at 1 PM. Run time is approximately 2 hours. The tour totals 3 miles of walking on uneven terrain on the Lower East Side\, East Village\, SoHo\, Tribeca\, and Chinatown\, making brief standing stops at each selected site.
