The Metropolitan Transportation Authority approved a punishing slate of service cuts on Wednesday that would amount to the most significant erosion of New York City’s transit system since its recovery from the ruinous days of the 1980s.

Last night, Community Board 1’s final full board meeting of the year was unusually emotional as two stalwarts of the community said farewell and Community Board chairperson Julie Menin announced that she would be leaving the Community Board when her term is up in June.

The Alliance for Downtown New York, in conjunction with the New York City Economic Development Corporation, 55 Broad Street and the Rudin family, launched the Hive at 55, a new coworking facility in Lower Manhattan, on December 1, 2009.
