Seaport Pilates Is Abs-Solutely Fabulous

Ready your cores, Lower Manhattanites — a new pilates studio is in town, and it’s ready to whip you into shape. Seaport Pilates debuted at 221 Front St. in November and it’s already made quite a splash, thanks to its welcoming atmosphere and core-crunching classes in an intimate, semi-private setting.

The studio is founded by Equinox alum Andie Sall, who also runs United Pilates NYC in Midtown. Sall lives in the Seaport, and wanted to bring the full boutique Pilates experience to the neighborhood, stocking Seaport Pilates with state-of-the-art apparati including reformers, towers, Cadillacs and chairs. Classes, which are largely led by former Equinox instructors, are geared to people of all levels, focusing on everything from circuits to jumpboards to posture modification. Crucially, class sizes are small, capping out at only four people. This gives clients the opportunity to take semi-private classes at group class rates — a real benefit for newcomers to reformer classes, which can feel intimidating to the uninitiated.

“What happens in a lot of studios is that students get lost, and form is not paid attention to,” Sall said, noting that a lot of Seaport Pilates’ clients are beginners. “Because classes are a small group, we’re able to tailor modifications to them.”

Seaport Pilates also offers group rates for parties of up to eight people, where attendees can rotate machines while socializing and enjoying smoothies or drinks, and plans to host events open to the public. For Valentine’s Day weekend, for instance, the studio will have special Valentine’s Day-themed classes for couples and pals celebrating Galentine’s Day, with plenty of complimentary themed bites and prosecco. These events are great workouts, Sall says, plus they help bring downtown folks even closer together.

“There’s a real sense of community down here,” Sall said. “People here really love their neighborhood.”
