It’s hot out there today, with this week’s early heat wave expected to stretch into the weekend. There are plenty of activities in the neighborhood to help you cool off, but if you’re just looking for a spot to chill out for a bit, the city has multiple cooling centers across the five boroughs; these will be open through Sunday.
The NYC Emergency Management Department has a handy cooling center finder to facilitate quick A/C breaks. The map-finder tool will point you to one of the more than 200 cooling centers open throughout the city, so you can stop by a center near you or pick any spot that’s convenient. Hours vary and are subject to change daily, so be sure to check the finder for updates.
Here are the cooling centers that are open south of Chambers Street:
- New Amsterdam Branch Library (9 Murray St.)
- HMH City Hall (older adults only) Older Adult Center (100 Gold St.)
- Battery Park City Library (175 North End Ave.)
