Ashby’s Is Where Crisps, Cadbury and Cuppas Await

Irish need not worry. If you find yourself longing for a taste of the Emerald Isle, stop by Ashby’s (120 Broadway, entrance on Pine Street) for unique snacks not typically found on this side of the Atlantic. You can find Irish snacks and candies like Keogh’s and Tayto crisps, McVities Digestives and Hobnobs biscuits, nostalgic candies like Poppets, Mars bars and Cadbury. Plus, it’s always fun browsing international pantry staples like HP Sauce, Sarson’s Malt Vinegar and a beautiful selection of jams for something you might want to take home or keep at the office to make your desk lunch a bit more tolerable.

The cafe’s owner, Lori Goncalves, loves to travel and stocks the shelves with treats she finds on her sojourns “from Ireland, Portugal, all over Europe,” she said, with a heavy focus on the British Isles. Goncalves told us she loves building relationships with her regular customers “I’m here every day,” she said.

Of course, in addition to these treats are the lunch staples you know and love at Ashby’s — like soups, salads and sandwiches plus paninis and wraps. There are even a few tables where you can enjoy a quick breakfast of yogurt, fruit, oatmeal or Balthazar pastries to pair with a La Colombe coffee (or a wide selection of teas, of course, if you fancy a cuppa).

Stop by Ashby’s Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. for good food, fun snacks and friendly service.
