The Balloon Museum Has Landed at the Tin Building

A new cultural institution has arrived at the Seaport, and it’s guaranteed to blow you away. The much-anticipated Balloon Museum opened at the Tin Building (96 South St.) on August 7, bringing 58,000 square feet of immersive, family-friendly interactive inflatable art installations to the neighborhood.
Conceived and produced by Lux Entertainment, the Balloon Museum debuted in Italy in 2021, and has since floated exhibitions across Europe, North America and Asia. The Tin Building iteration is its first permanent location in the U.S., and its nationwide flagship. The inaugural exhibition, “Daydream: Air Becomes Art,” brings together some big names in the art world, including renowned artist Marina Abramović, whose installation “Snowy/Windy/Spring on Planet Z” takes center stage.
Other artists of note include Turner Prize winner Martin Creed, Alex Schweder, Thom Kubli and Karina Smigla-Bobinski, all of whom present larger-than-life interactive works designed to inspire awe and astonishment.
“Daydream speaks to a culture that has made escape and emotional intensity part of everyday life. Through the ephemeral monumentality of air, the featured voices create spaces that loosen us from the ordinary and hold us, if only for a moment, in a state of wonder,” exhibition curator Valentino Catricalà said in a statement. “Bringing this debut to New York allows us to explore how creative expression can open new horizons for emotion and reflection.”
The museum is open seven days a week, with tickets running $40 for adults 18-65, $33 for teens, seniors and adults with disability, and $26 for children 12 and under; packaged family pricing is available as well. Book your tickets here.
