This Fall Drinks Matrix Will Point You to Your Next Fave Autumnal Beverage

October 20, 2026

There’s a chill in the air but the sun’s still shining, the leaves are changing but the trees aren’t bare. We’re smack in the middle of (arguably) the best season in New York City, and it’s time we start drinking appropriately. Therefore, we proudly present to you: The Autumn Drinks Matrix!

A visual guide matrix comparing fall beverages organized along two axes: "HOT" at the top versus "CHILLED" at the bottom, and "ZERO-PROOF" on the left versus "BOOZY" on the right. Small red maple leaves decorate the dotted background. Top-Left (Hot & Zero-Proof): Kinship: Hojicha Hot Chocolate (paper cup with latte art) Cafe Patoro: Dulce de Leche Matcha (green matcha latte) Regular NYC: Spiced Maple Latte (green and white paper cup) Fulton Stall Market: Hot Apple Cider (paper cup) Cafe Jalu: Sultan Black Tea (black tea with warm spice, dried fruit, chocolate) Top-Right (Hot & Boozy): Ulysses: Hot Toddy (Jameson, sugar, lemon, cloves in a glass mug with a cinnamon stick and lemon wheel) Full Schilling: Muff Hot Apple Cider (Muff Irish whiskey, apple cider, honey in a mug) Dead Rabbit: Irish Coffee (Whiskey, coffee, demerara, whipped cream, nutmeg in a glass mug) Cork: Mulled Wine ("Coming in November!" in a clear glass mug with cinnamon) Bottom-Left (Chilled & Zero-Proof): MCM Coffee: Chai Cold Brew (iced coffee in a plastic cup) Flavors WSA Cafe: Cinnamon Sugar Shaken Espresso (iced orange-tinted latte) Lucky Tiger: Carrot Salad (Carrot, cassia cinnamon, lemon, Perrier with fresh mint garnish) Healthy Green Juice Bar: Cold Buster (Orange, lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, spinach, ginger green smoothie) Conwell Coffee Hall: Orange Creamsicle Mocha (iced drink next to an orange and chocolate pieces) Bottom-Right (Chilled & Boozy): Capital Grille: Brown Butter Old Fashioned (Woodford Reserve Rye, black walnut bitters on the rocks) Fraunches Tavern: Cutie Pie (Vodka, chocolate pumpkin spice liqueur, coffee brandy liqueur, fresh cream, grated nutmeg) La Marchande: Fig Leaf Martini (Goat cheese infused gin, dry vermouth, fig cordial garnished with dried figs) Clinton Hall: Pumpkin Ale (Montauk Brewing Company beer in a glass) Split Eights: Butterscotch Flip (Madeira, Jamaican rum, coffee stout, house-made butterscotch, egg yolk served in a tall coupe glass)

At first glance, you may notice the omission of the darling of fall drinks, the pumpkin spice latte. It’s not for lack of availability — almost every coffee shop and cafe in the nabe is serving up their version of the famous beverage, so we purposefully set our sights on more unique libations.

We split the downtown drinking scene into four quadrants: if it’s a chilly day, consider exploring the top of the matrix for warming cocktails, spiced lattes and seasonal tea blends. If you’re an iced-coffee-year-round-no-matter-what kind of person, or you just fancy something strong in a chilled glass, head south down the axis. Move from left to right, and you’ll start at creative mocktails and coffees before making your way to high ABV offerings like Pumpkin IPAs and killer martinis on the right.

Wherever you end up, have fun, enjoy the weather and tip your server! Happy Autumn, and see our Instagram for more downtown matrices.
