How to Get Your Updated Covid Booster
At last, the updated Covid boosters are here. Last month, the FDA authorized the new bivalent boosters from Moderna and Pfizer, which have been reconfigured to fight both the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron variants in addition to the original Covid-19 strain. Though the rollout has been a touch quiet, shots are available at drugstore pharmacies across the city.
Walgreens and CVS both have appointments available, and you can find more locations and information via the city’s Vaccine Finder portal or through your doctor.
The Moderna vaccine is available for ages 18+, and the Pfizer vaccine is available for 12+. Boosters are not yet available for under-12s. The CDC recommends that you wait at least two months since your last booster and at least three months since you’ve recovered from Covid to receive an updated vaccine.
You can also get a flu shot at the same time as your booster, though if you want to wait on the former, it’s recommended you at least get it by the end of October. This way you’re protected ahead of flu season.
