Malt House Cocktail News: Four Elixirs You Gotta Try Right Away

Nothing says summer like kicking back with a drink. In Lower Manhattan, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to happy hour and date night, but when you’re craving a craft cocktail — or perhaps an entire flight of them — the Malt House (9 Maiden Ln.) is one of our hidden gems.

In addition to its elevated pub fare, the downtown spot offers a slate of gorgeous cocktails sure to please any palate. Here are four drinks worth trying on your next visit.

Margarita flight

Why choose only one margarita when you have a perfectly good straight-back chair holding you upright? The four-flavor flight (only $30, BTW) starts with a sweet marg made with pomegranate, white peach and black cherry. Next is the citrus margarita, a blend of watermelon and smoky chargrilled pineapple. Keep the party going with a spicy margarita, made with mango, kiwi and smoked habanero peppers. Then, assuming you’re still with us, batting cleanup is the sour margarita, made with strawberry and smoked passion fruit. Good luck choosing a favorite.

A Bronx Tale

This jewel-toned drink brings together hibiscus-aged Westward American Whiskey, basil simple syrup, muddled blackberries and just a little lemonade. It’s served on the rocks with delicious garnish.

Cloud Nine

Forgive the pun, but you truly will be on cloud nine after a few sips of this bold drink. It starts with smoky mezcal shaken with passion fruit, habanero and lime. But the reason this one is an Alliance all-timer might have to do with the layer of mint and agave, topped with fluffy egg white foam on top.

The Antidote

Consider the Antidote your, uh, antidote to a crummy workday or awkward first date. A bit of Patron Silver and Patron Citrónge come together with yuzu lemon and lime for a bright beverage that’s sure to turn things around. You can order this one frozen or on the rocks.
