Here’s How to Vote Early in the Midterm Elections

October 20, 2026

Election Day is November 3 this year, and early voting is right around the corner. Starting on October 24, you can cast your early vote in the midterms in NYC, with a few pretty big seats up for grabs. Don’t know where to find your poll site or what’s on your ballot?  Read on.

The first step is to make sure you’re registered. In order to vote in the general election, you must register no later than October 24. If you’re not sure of your registration status, or you’ve moved since the last election, take a minute to confirm that you’re registered and that your address is up to date.

Once you’re set, early voting may be the way to go to avoid the Election Day crowds. Early voting runs from October 24 through November 1, with hours varying by day and by location. Find the full schedule for early voting here. To skip the lines and the hassle altogether, request a ballot to vote by mail.

This year, you’ll be choosing between city and statewide candidates on the ballot, including governor and lieutenant governor, attorney general, state comptroller, state senator and congressional representative, to name a few. You’ll also weigh in on five ballot proposals and give a yes or no to each. This is your chance to give your input on issues from city finances to the usage of public space and street safety projects.

Your early voting site may differ from your Election Day poll site, so make sure to double-check both. You can find your poll site and view a sample ballot for your district here. Looking at the sample ballot ahead of time gives you the chance to research and make your decisions before you’re standing in the booth. See you at the polls!
