Downtown Alliance Shares Holiday Greetings in Paper Art Video by Award Winning Artist

The Downtown Alliance shares greetings and good cheer for the holiday season with a new video that has been unveiled today under the theme of Winter Wonderland. The video portrays the many famous sites of Lower Manhattan coming to life during the holiday season through intricate paper art.

“Come take a two-minute escape and enjoy the charm of the holidays, as can only be experienced in Lower Manhattan,” said Downtown Alliance President Jessica Lappin. “This video captures the magic of the holiday season downtown as seen through our many iconic sites.”

The Downtown Alliance commissioned Italian artist Stefano Bertelli to create the video, which animates a whimsical series of wintertime vignettes of Lower Manhattan set to Ella Fitzgerald’s rendition of “Winter Wonderland.” Bertelli, who won a Webby Award for his work on a music video for Frank Sinatra’s version of “Let it Snow,” created the entire montage with folded paper.

“The video is crafted with original paper models, in a ‘low poly’ style and animated using a stop-motion technique,” said Bertelli. “The representation of Lower Manhattan is distilled to its essential forms, aiming to transport viewers into a simple paper world focusing on the warmth the city emanates through its colors.”

Many of downtown’s most notable landmarks, public art and cultural institutions are included throughout the video including the Oculus, the Charging Bull, PAC NYC, the Brooklyn Bridge,  Delmonico’s and many more.
