Open House NY: 13 Lower Manhattan Tours Not to be Missed
This month, Open House New York is once again throwing open the doors to historic sites, architectural wonders and typically closed-off buildings. As NYC’s oldest neighborhood, it’s no surprise that there are more than a dozen locations in Lower Manhattan.
These sites examine our past, explore the neighborhood’s present and look to our community’s future. Travel back with the Lower Manhattan Historical Association for a walking tour of NYC during the revolutionary period. Explore the upper floors of Schermerhorn Row—a significant example of early 19th-century architecture that is usually closed off to the public and where a number of selected artifacts from the South Street Seaport Museum’s permanent collection is stored. Or pop over to the AT&T Long Distance Building to view Art Deco muralist Hildreth Meière’s silhouette glass mosaic, depicting Continents Linked by Telephone and Wireless. And if none of this suits you, there is a list of plenty more options below. Please let us know if we’ve left off any!
