Greek Mmmmmythology: New High-End Greek Eats Hit The Neighborhood

Lower Manhattan has a new spot for high-end Greek dining.

Anassa Taverna opened last month in a 7,000-square-foot space at 102 North End Avenue that was formerly the home of North End Grill. The restaurant invokes the high-energy spots in Athens’ Plaka neighborhood and the Greek Isles, with a design that includes hanging vines and natural woods.

The food includes fresh, approachable takes on Greek seafood and innovative cocktails; menu highlights include charcoal-grilled octopus, whole fresh fish by the pound, lobster spaghetti, lamb kebab and lamb chops, plus a raw bar featuring oysters, clams and shrimp.

Anassa is the creation of first cousins Nick Tsoulos and Nick Pashalis, who also own Anassa Taverna outposts in Midtown and Astoria. The Downtown location is open 4:30 p.m.-11 p.m. seven days a Week; a weekend brunch menu is coming soon. Find more information, menus or reservations here
