Art on the Ave Displaying Local Works Up and Down Broadway

If you’ve been out and about carousing Downtown the last few weeks, then certainly you’ve caught a series of Lower Manhattan storefronts that have been transformed into public art galleries. The underlying theme is resiliency, while utilizing vacant storefront spaces. “Public art in Lower Manhattan wants will help us mark our return in a thoughtful and joyous way,” Downtown Alliance President Jessica Lappin said. “Whether it’s storefront galleries, permanent outdoor sculptures or performances taking place across the neighborhood, the arts are flourishing Downtown. We welcome New Yorkers to come rediscover and explore our neighborhood with fresh eyes.”

The public-art nonprofit Art on the Ave NYC launched the initiative in partnership with the Downtown Alliance back in September — in a simultaneous effort to pretty up the neighborhood but also for artists to express concepts of adaptability and the capacity to thrive in changing or challenging environments.
