Jimi Hendrix Wouldn’t Dare Miss This e-Waste and Shred-a-Thon Fest

Real heads know that Jimi Hendrix’s set at the Fillmore East was a lowkey first-rate performance in his brief albeit phenomenal career. But, like the rest of us, the rock god has likely always been distracted at home by all the old VCRs and junk mail from decades past. So if anyone runs into the Band of Gypsys lead, be sure to tell him that on Saturday, March 18, the Downtown Alliance is partnering with the LES Ecology Center for a gnarly e-waste recycling and shred-a-thon fest. It might not outshine that 1970 concert from way back when, but the event will still have plenty of shredding.

Of course, everyone else is also welcome to rustle up their old widgets and unwanted documents and bring ’em over to Fulton Street between Ryders Alley and Cliff Street. A mobile shredding truck will securely destroy and recycle all sensitive documents, tax receipts and old bills from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until the truck is filled. 

Likewise, for electronics (working and non-working) that are currently collecting dust, the following list covers what to bring: 

• Computers (laptops, desktops, servers, mainframes) 
• Monitors (CRT and flatscreen) 
• Handheld devices (smartphones, tablets, MP3 players, e-readers) 
• Network devices (routers, hubs, modems) 
• Peripherals (keyboards, mice, cables, cords, chargers) 
• Components (hard drives, CD-ROMs, circuit boards, power supplies) 
• Printers under 50 pounds, scanners, fax machines 
• TVs 
• VCRs, DVRs, DVD and Blu-ray players
• Digital converter boxes, cable/satellite receivers 
• Video-game consoles and accessories 
• Cell phones, pagers, PDAs 

We cannot accept home appliances such as microwaves, refrigerators, air conditioners or ionization smoke detectors/carbon monoxide detectors (those that are labeled as containing radioactive material).
