Planning Initiatives

The Downtown Alliance team remains focused on activating and revitalizing underused corridors around Lower Manhattan.

The planning division advanced the revitalization of the Water Street corridor by collaborating with city agencies on a streetscape project and advocating for a zoning text amendment to enliven and improve arcades and plazas.

As the historic intersection of Wall Street and Broad Street became isolated from the rejuvenations around the district, the Alliance convened a working group to develop achievable recommendations on how to make one of the most heavily visited and historically important corners of New York City secure, welcoming and vibrant.

In Greenwich South, the neighborhood directly adjacent to the World Trade Center, the Alliance has pushed for incremental change since 2008, including the recent completion of Elizabeth H. Berger Plaza.
