You Have Until July 29 To File Your 9/11 Compensation Claims
If you lost family members or are suffering health problems from the post-9/11 cleanup of Lower Manhattan, a heads up: the last day to file a claim with the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund is July 29.
The fund exists to financially assist those who are suffering chronic medical issues from the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center — the fund is available to residents and workers who were in the area from September 11, 2001 to May 30, 2002.
Two years ago, the fund was extended by Congress to allow families of those who died from the toxic exposure to receive benefits up until 2090, essentially making the policy permanent.
There is also health-care and financial assistance available for the millions of people who lived, worked, attended school, volunteered or served as first responders. People who receive a 9/11-related diagnosis after July 29 will still have two years from the date of diagnosis to apply for compensation.
