Canstruction Returns With Can-Made Labubus and Landmarks

October 28, 2025

The can-petition of the year is making its big return, with some particularly can-spiring creations on the docket. This year’s Canstruction, which runs from October 31 to November 10 at Brookfield Place (30 Vesey St.), will include some spectacular — and dare we say, on-trend — builds, including New York City icons like the Washington Square Arch and, crucially, a Labubu made entirely of cans.

The annual design competition invites teams to create large-scale sculptures out of canned goods, with 23 can-tastic sculptures from architecture and engineering firms on the docket this year. The teams will be can-peting for a slew of coveted titles, including Best Original Design, Best Use of Labels, Structural Ingenuity, Best Meal, Most Cans and a People’s Choice award. And not only is Canstruction a creative test, it also benefits a worthy cause, as post-competition, the cans will be donated to City Harvest.

If you want to see the can-structers in action, head to Brookfield Place’s Winter Garden on October 30 for a live build from the DeSimone Consulting Engineering team. The build will begin at 10 a.m. and takes around six to eight hours to complete. Other exhibition can-vassing options include guided tours (sign up here), or you can stop by the Winter Garden and explore on your own. You can also get involved by dropping off some canned good donations of your own for City Harvest, and if you find a particular sculpture inspiring, cast a vote for it on Brookfield’s website in hopes of helping it win that People’s Choice award.
