Celebrate Hamilton’s Special Day In LM

This week, trace through history and come celebrate Alexander Hamilton’s 262nd birthday in Lower Manhattan!

Alexander Hamilton, born on January 11, 1755 or 1757 (the year is up for debate), was an American revolutionary patriot and one of the founding fathers. He was also the first Secretary of the Treasury and founder of America’s oldest bank, the Bank of New York (now BNY Mellon) which was located in the building currently housing the Museum of American Finance.  

In honor of Hamilton’s birthday on January 11th, Federal Hall is throwing a plethora of events from film screenings, book signings, expert talks, awards, and graveside ceremonies, all throughout the day. Click here to view the schedule of events.

Other places in Lower Manhattan that hold the history of Hamilton include Exchange Place (formerly Garden St), where Hamilton established a law office, Fraunces Tavern Museum, where the Sons of Liberty gathered to work on their plans and where Hamilton had a civil yet tense supper with his nemesis Aaron Burr, and last but certainly not least, Trinity Church Cemetery, where Hamilton is buried.
