How to Use the New Composting Bins in Lower Manhattan

The Downtown Alliance and the NYC Department of Sanitation recently launched a pilot program in the neighborhood for composting — and here’s a video that shows how easy it is to use these Bluetooth-connected receptacles.

Per the video, all you have to do is follow these five steps:

  1. Scan the bin’s QR code
  2. Download the eGate digital app
  3. Sign up
  4. Tap the bin to open
  5. Ta-da! Place your compost in the bin and shut the lever closed

Everyone is welcome to sign up to use the bins for food scraps and other compostable items using the eGate Digi app (available on iPhone and Android) and any questions you have can likely be answered on our dedicated FAQ page.
