Extra Spicy: New Flavored Lattes to Rival the Ol’ Pumpkin Spice

Not that pumpkin spice lattes aren’t delicious (fight us), but there are plenty of other flavored seasonal drinks that deserve a little love this holiday season — and quite a few of them are downtown. If you’re looking to upgrade your flavor profile and also support a local business, pick from the following sugared-and-spiced espresso list.

Takahachi Bakery (25 Murray St.)

This beloved Japanese cafe and dessert shop prepares a solid matcha latte, but local workers know to order the seasonal apple chai special.

Bean & Bean Coffee (71 Broadway)

The mother-daughter duo behind Bean & Bean have once again provided the neighborhood with a delicious holiday treat. Try their maple latte for a seasonal drink between meetings.

Inatteso Cafe (38 West St.)

Steps from the Battery Park City Esplanade, this cute Italian espresso store offers a zesty decaf turmeric latte to boost immune systems without the buzz right in time for flu season.

787 Coffee (77 Pearl St.)

We’ve lauded the mood uplifting effects of 787’s breakfast tacos and empanadas, so adding their rum-infused coquito latte to your order is the flavor party your brain deserves. There’s also a dulce de leche latte if you’d like to switch up seasonal flavors.

Two Geese (101 Liberty St.)

Treat yourself to one of their sweet-inspired latte options, including horchata and creme brulée. 

Dragon Tea (106 Greenwich St.)

This modern bubble tea cafe whips up a refreshing strawberry matcha iced latte.

Ten Thousand Coffee (14 Wall St.)

There are two unique options on the menu here: a purple sweet potato latte, and an iced “Onyx” latte, a mix of cold brew, black cocoa and chicory.

MCM Coffee (88 Fulton St.)

This sibling-run independent shop offers tasty snack staples like buttery croissants and Uruguayan alfajores in addition to hand-made ceramic mugs and homegoods for cozy latte orders. They have an *extensive* flavor list but if we had to choose one from their “classic” and “fancy” lists, we choose: a classic maicena (shortbread vanilla cookie with coconut flakes) and a specialty Leckerli, a traditional hard spice biscuit originating from Basel, Switzerland.

Split Eights (40 Exchange Pl.)

This afternoon standby doubles as a classy, two-floor cocktail lounge at night, but we’re all about the decadent butterscotch latte. And if you stick around for happy hour, they’ve got a boozy version called “Butterscotch Flip” that uses a tasty coffee stout.

The Dead Rabbit (30 Water St.)

Hit the snooze button on Seasonal Affective Disorder with their smooth Irish coffee as you watch the sun go down a little earlier each day.
