Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun: Your Downtown Fall Guide

Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun: Your Downtown Fall Guide

October 13, 2026

If your fall to-do list is looking thin, consider this your cheat sheet to all things autumn downtown. October is packed with pumpkins, Oktoberfest, a Halloween parade and enough scary movies to keep you up past bedtime. Note that as always, select stores and restaurants throughout the neighborhood will be open for trick-or-treating on Halloween, like West Bank Gourmet Deli (21 West St.) and TAQ (81 Warren St.). However you like to celebrate the season, whether it’s with a pumpkin patch, a pint or a scary movie with a fall snack, downtown has a way to make it happen this October.

Here’s where to start.

For the Scary Movie Aficionados

Love a good scare but don’t want to watch alone on the couch? Battery Park City Authority is screening “The Snow Witch” on October 22, and “Sisters” on October 29, each with free popcorn and a discussion afterwards. Conwell Coffee & Cocktail Hall (6 Hanover St.) is also planning a Halloween Film Festival in its Great Hall, starting in mid-October. The lineup is still being finalized, but come see a family-friendly movie during weekend brunches or a spookier one during the week. And if that’s not enough, Alamo Drafthouse at 28 Liberty St. is presenting Drafthouse of Horrors, with scary favorites all October, like “Beetlejuice” and “Trick ‘r Treat.” See their full lineup here.

Gourd Vibes Only

Before it gets too cold, ferry over to Governors Island for all of the fall festivities. On October 17, the Cake Picnic comes to town with fall flavors, eerie icing, fun cakes and a 5K run. It wouldn’t be Halloween without carving jack o’ lanterns, and there will be plenty of pumpkins at Pumpkin Point, the annual pumpkin patch and fall festival, running October 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pick out a pumpkin, wear your best costume and trick-or-treat at Nolan Park.

Trick or Treats

There are lots of treats to get this fall — hopefully they don’t come with any tricks. Funny Face Bakery (6 Fulton St.) has cookies with seasonal flavors like pumpkin sugar n’ spice, plus custom decorated cookies perfect for a Halloween party. Besides the classic pumpkin spice lattes, there are plenty of other seasonal drinks to sip. And if you prefer your fall drinks with booze in ’em, Simply Wine is pouring free tastings all month, including a special Hallowines tasting October 30.

Mezcal fans should head to Urban Cove Society & Kitchen (33 Peck Slip) for Spirits of the Season, running October 21 through November 2. The celebration kicks off on National Mezcal Day with a limited-time cocktail menu starring Rosaluna Mezcal and Cointreau, plus a Dia de los Muertos installation. Sip a Calabaza Horchata (alcoholic or spirit-free) or the hibiscus-infused La Bruja Mezcalita, with a guajillo chili salt rim. On Halloween, from 4 to 6 p.m., costumes are encouraged and the best-dressed guests get a Rosaluna swag bag.

Get Spooked

If you want to be a part of the scary story, visit BrainXcape Manhattan, an escape room at 160 Broadway. With five different rooms, including the Haunted Hotel and the Bloody Circus, there’s a thrilling experience for everyone. There are also countless ghost tours downtown, like Witches of Wall Street, Sinister Secrets of the Seaport or Historic Haunts of Lower Manhattan. For even more immersion in the history, on Friday, October 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Fraunces Tavern Museum (54 Pearl St.) transforms into a candlelit adventure for Living History After Dark. Meet costumed interpreters, receive a themed goody bag, see rare artifacts and hear tales of the Revolutionary era.

Hops on Over to Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is hands down the best excuse to drink a giant beer and eat a bratwurst. And this year,, downtown is going all in. Check out the festivities at Watermark on Pier 15 every day through October 31. Clinton Hall (90 Washington St.) will also have a special menu, beer specials and stein-hoisting competitions through the end of the month. Then head over to Stone Street, home to one of the largest Oktoberfest celebrations in New York City, with drinks, food, music and games filling the street.

Howl-oween Parade

Pups in costume will be taking over Wagner Park on Saturday, October 24. BPC Dog Association and Le Pet Spa will be hosting the 24th Annual Battery Park City Halloween Puppy Parade with all sorts of prizes, including best costumes, owner and dog combo, dog team and tail-wagging. Dress up your dog in their cutest costume or come to cheer them on — either way it is sure to be a ball! (No fetching required.)

Ahoy, Halloween!

The Seaport has plenty going on to get the whole family in the Halloween spirit. Start with the giant Pumpkin Arch on Pier 17, which will be popping up October 22. On October 25, hop aboard a ferry from Long Island City to the Seaport, with stories about the legends and folklore of the New York Harbor and Lower Manhattan along the way.

On October 31, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the South Street Seaport Museum offers free admission and a full day of family-friendly fun. There will be a scavenger hunt aboard the Wavertree, healthy Halloween treats with Mommy Poppins, a costume parade at 2 p.m. and trick-or-treating throughout the Seaport for the rest of the afternoon. See all of the details here.

Keep Quiet

“I have a secret to share with you,” is an immersive masquerade experience at Mercer Labs (21 Dey St.) on October 30 and 31. People are encouraged to come embodying their zodiac sign as there are 12 different rooms representing each sign, all with their own unique performance. There will be cocktails, dance floors, DJ sets and a one-of-a-kind nightlife experience. Get your tickets here.
