Fraunces Tavern Returns With Outdoor Dining, Virtual Trivia Night
You can stop staring longingly at the Lego replica of Fraunces Tavern (54 Pearl Street), because you can once again frequent the real thing. The 300-year-old, Colonial-themed tavern is back in action for outdoor dining starting at noon on Saturday, August 1.
Powdered wigs are optional but certainly not discouraged for the return of a historic pub landmark (and one that was good enough for George Washington to feast on multi-course meals). More from the Fraunces staff on what’s to come this weekend and beyond at the restaurant:
From 2p to 5p, to celebrate the reopening, Allen Gogarty will perform live and a four-story American flag will be unfurled, that runs the length of the building from the sidewalk to the roof.
Fraunces Tavern will serve popular items from lunch, brunch and dinner menus with over 400 whiskeys, signature cocktails and 130 craft beers and ciders. The bar will also serve Samuel Fraunces Ale, brewed by Flagship Brewing Co., newly released in spirited cans.
For those who aren’t prepared to dine out, Fraunces’ history-buff clientele will be stoked to learn that a Tavern Trivia Night is returning in virtual form on August 27 at 7p. Also, be sure to bookmark the adjoining Fraunces Museum’s ”Tavern Talks” podcast for your listening pleasure. The latest episode covers Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr’s connection to Fraunces and the events that led up to their legendary duel.
Fraunces’s kitchen will remain open 12p–11p daily. Social distancing will be observed, and all staff will be wearing masks and disinfecting surfaces in keeping with CDC guidelines.
