Rosa Mexicano first opened in Midtown in 1984 and introduced what New York Magazine called a “hitherto unfamiliar, elevated version of Mexican cuisine.” Now the renowned Mexican eatery — whose names means “Mexican Pink” — has made its Lower Manhattan debut at 41 Murray Street.

Founder Josefina Howard decided to name her restaurant based on the color’s exciting combination of blue, red, and white that is different from other pinks and is very popular in Mexico.

The chain’s fourth New York City location offers a festive atmosphere and regionally authentic Mexican cuisine that uses socially responsible ingredients. You can enjoy a potent pomegranate margarita while your guacamole is made tableside with a traditional lava-rock mortar.  The diverse menu is built around Rosa’s signature masa, which is ground by hand and made fresh each day.

Make sure to also check out Masa Y Agave, a bar and lounge right downstairs.  They serve 400-plus different agave spirits (yes, that includes tequila).  If that sounds a tad overwhelming, try one of their Agave Flights.  Each “flight” takes your tongue on a journey through the techniques and culture associated with Mexican Agave.

¡Buen provecho!
