Meet a Lower Manhattan Business: Aroma Espresso Bar

08/08/2012 in

A taste of Israel has reached Lower Manhattan with the arrival of Aroma Espresso Bar. The popular coffee and pastry chain in Israel offers everything from espresso drinks to shakshuka, a Middle Eastern egg dish with tomatoes and pepper sauce. Bread and sweet treats are baked on the premises daily. And if java isn’t your thing, Aroma’s hot chocolate with pralines was named one of the city’s most decadent by Time Out New York.

The sleek, black, red and white space is also a fun gathering spot for local executives brainstorming over coffee, and tourists mapping out their next move. The booths and bar stools are carefully spread out so customers aren’t elbowing each other while they eat.

“We wanted people to have room to sit with their friends and family,” says co-owner Gal Danay, a former student at Pace’s Lower Manhattan campus who vividly recalls a time when pizza places were the only nearby hangouts for students.
