Find Celebration, Creativity and Culture at the China Institute’s Mid-Autumn Festival
September 22, 2026
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of China’s most beloved traditions, and one we’re happy to be able to celebrate downtown. On September 26, the China Institute of America, at 100 Washington St. will host activities, performances and workshops, giving folks of all ages a chance to join in the festive spirit and learn about longstanding cultural gems.
Starting at 2 p.m., kick things off with performances of traditional Chinese music and Dunhuang dance followed by a guided tour of the China Institute Gallery’s current exhibition, “China Institute Gallery at 60, 1966-2026: Selections From Three Millennia of Chinese Art.” Once you’ve made your way through the show,, explore various interactive stations and hands-on workshops. You can craft your own rice dough sculptures and mooncakes, or try your hand at facial mask creation, sugar painting or lacquer fan art. If you’re feeling inspired by the performances, join the Chinese dance workshop or get hands-on with these traditional musical instruments. The festivities conclude at 5 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $6 for children 12 and under, and free for China Institute students and members. Find out more details and reserve your spot here.
