New York Is BACK, Baby: City To Fully Reopen On July 1
Prepare yourselves for the Summer Of New York. Mayor de Blasio announced that starting July 1, the city will open at full capacity.
“We are ready for stores to open, for businesses to open, offices, theaters, full strength,” the mayor told MSNBC’s Morning Joe. The reopening plan includes restaurants, gyms, shops, hair salons and arenas; theaters will take slightly more time, with smaller venues expected to reopen over the summer and Broadway by September.
The city’s vaccination program is well underway, and about 36% of adults in New York City were fully vaccinated as of Wednesday. Case numbers are dropping after a difficult fall and winter. Earlier this week, Governor Cuomo announced an end to a number of restrictive measures affecting restaurants and bars, including reopening bar seating and ending the 12 a.m. indoor and outdoor curfews come May.
