On January 1, 2026, City Hall and City Hall Park will serve as the daylong inauguration site for Zohran Mamdani, who will be ceremonially sworn in as mayor on the steps of City Hall at 1 p.m. (He will be officially sworn in by Attorney General Letitia James at midnight on New Year’s Eve inside the majestic old City Hall subway station — take a look inside the long-abandoned station here!) A number of streets in Lower Manhattan will be closed to facilitate the festivities, which kick off on Thursday morning.
Be aware of the following street changes, starting at 5 a.m. on Thursday:
- Broadway between Chambers Street and Wall Street will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic
- NYPD will set up barricade pens on the west and east sides of Broadway from Vesey Street to Liberty Street for public viewing, with the possibility of an extension to south to Wall Street if needed. (There will still be a 15-foot emergency lane available in the middle of the roadway.)
- All side cross streets in the area will be closed to vehicle traffic during events. These streets run from Church to Broadway and Nassau and Broadway.
- VIP parking will be on Chambers Street between Broadway and Centre Street; press parking can be found on Park Row.
If you have a ticket to the inauguration, ticket holders will be checked in at Park Place and Church Street. There will be a security scan station at Park Place and Broadway. After your scan, you will be directed into City Hall Park. The general public will have limited viewing access at Liberty Street and Broadway. For ADA access, check in at Barclay Street and Church Street.
Note that the R, W and N trains will skip the City Hall stop during the inauguration. Train lines at Fulton Center will remain open, but riders will only be allowed to enter and exit onto Fulton Street.
