Discover the “Other Side of Wall Street” With the Black Gotham Experience

If you’re an armchair history buff who enjoys learning while taking in the great outdoors, a Lower Manhattan institution has a great offering: the Black Gotham Experience — a multimedia storytelling project that celebrates the African Diaspora’s impact on New York City — has their own walking tour. The “Other Side of Wall Street” begins in the year 1643, when the community of Land of the Blacks launched just outside the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam.
Twelve years later, the Land of the Blacks expanded to double that of today’s Soho and remained in existence until the English usurped the island from the Dutch. This 90-minute tour for $25 unpacks how the entire community began and how its existence unfolded into the 1700s.
All walking tours are scheduled at 4 p.m. for the following dates: Thursday, June 9; Friday, June 10; Thursday, June 16; and Friday, June 17. Book yours here.
