Ghost Ships, Costume Parties and More Upcoming Hauntings at the Seaport

Ahoy, brave souls! The South Street Seaport Museum beckons you to celebrate Halloween with a number of spooky maritime-themed events.

Unleash your creativity with 19th-century stationers Bowne & Co. (211 Water St.) at their Halloween-themed origami and letterpress printing workshop on Saturday, October 14, from noon to 2 p.m. The workshop is free and you’ll be able to take home your beautiful paper creations. Pre-registration is encouraged, which you can do here.

On Saturday, October 28, the cobbled Fulton and Front streets will get a little spookier with an all-ages Halloween block party. While you’re there, pop into the Introduction Galleries (12 Fulton St.) and Bowne & Co., where costumed visitors can find the “treat” half of “trick-or-treat.” The party will continue through Sunday, October 29, with arts-and-crafts activities and a spooky scavenger hunt onboard the 130-year-old Wavertree. Pre-register here.

For those brave enough to delve into the darker secrets of the Seaport, embark on a guided walking tour of the Historic District to discover its turbulent, scandalous and sinister past. One of the winners of the Alliance’s Walking Tour Incubator grant program, this 90-minute journey is a must for true crime fans and history buffs. Tours will take place on multiple dates throughout October and range between $30 and $40. Book here.

And for the most intrepid seafarers, this month is your opportunity to sail the New York Harbor in the century-old Pioneer. If taking in the Manhattan skyline from a 19th-century schooner isn’t adventurous enough, you’ll even get the chance to raise the sails yourself! Pioneer will set sail on weekends throughout October. Tickets range from $20 to $50 and can be booked here.
