The annual CANstruction competition returns to Brookfield Place for its 24th annual event. On display from November 3rd-16th, works of art built out of cans of food will amaze your eyes and blow your creative mind.

Teams of engineers, architects and contractors bring their best CAN-do attitude and come together to test their skills, creating sculptures out of unopened cans of food.

Who knows what they’ll create?  Giant birds like TouCANS or peliCANS, an erupting volCANo, cartoon characters with an unCANny resemblance, one (or both) of this year’s presidential CANidates, or maybe even a model of the coelaCANths fish.  With the skill these fabriCANts bring, the possibilities are endless! After the competition, the statues get CANnibalized and donated to City Harvest, feeding those who need it most.

Accompanying the CANtastic displays, Brookfield will also host two members of The Institute of Culinary Education for several presentations and tastings throughout the event.  On November 6th from 12 P.M. – 3 P.M., Chad Pagano explains how gastronomers turn food and juices into those small little balls (called spherification) with live demos.  On November 12th from 12 P.M. – 3 P.M., be sure to visit Jenny McCoy, the co-chair of The Center of Advanced Pastry Studies and creator of the upcoming online class series at Craftsy.com.

So CANcel any conflicting plans and visit CANstruction before it goes vaCANt!
