A Look Inside Warren Street Hotel, a Bold, Whimsical Addition to Lower Manhattan

Lower Manhattan’s newest hotel is a maximalist dream. Warren Street Hotel (86 Warren St.), which opened to the public in February, is filled with vibrant, fanciful pieces selected by the hotel group’s co-founder and creative director, Kit Kemp

Kemp’s interior design style tends towards the whimsical and dramatic, so guests at Warren Street Hotel can expect to come upon items like oversized hanging basket towers in the lobby and a monumental bronze-and-plaster sculpture overlooking the bar and restaurant. The exterior of the hotel, designed by architecture firm Stonehill Taylor, is similarly attractive, with a dazzling cerulean and lemon-yellow facade.

Each of the hotel’s 69 rooms is individually designed by Kemp, though there are some common elements: colorful upholstered headboards that stretch towards the ceiling of the room, plush furniture, and floor-to-ceiling windows that make each room and suite feel luminous. Some suites also feature deep bathtubs and private terraces with gardens full of lush greenery and small trees. Kemp shared with the New York Times that bringing natural elements into the hotel was among the most rewarding aspects of designing the property. “You can sit in the drawing room of a suite overlooking a garden, or even in the bath, watching the flowers grow,” she said.

Warren Street Bar and Restaurant

Downstairs at the Warren Street Bar and Restaurant, guests can enjoy a dinner menu with items like yellowfin tuna tartare, Long Island duck, wild mushroom risotto, grilled dover sole and more. For dessert, options like lemon or apple tarts or chocolate mousse topped with passion fruit curd and pistachio are not to be missed. (Many of these items are also available on the hotel’s lunch menu.) Before checking out, guests can also grab breakfast or brunch at the restaurant. Dishes like buttermilk pancakes, Eggs Benedict, and New York bagels topped with smoked salmon and cream cheese are all on the menu.
