Regular NYC Is Where You’ll Find the Perfect Flat White

Regular NYC Is Where You’ll Find the Perfect Flat White

There’s a new cafe just south of the World Trade Center and it’s not your typical quick fix. While on-the-go java junkies are welcomed (and will be offered an adorable pastel-colored takeaway cup), Regular NYC’s specialty flat whites — a signature Australian beverage — are designed to slow down downtowners rather than hurry them out the door.

Regular’s menu features a stunning array of breakfast and lunch options, including the Ranchero, a take on huevos rancheros made with slow-cooked beef brisket and cotija cheese; cinnamon French toast with pistachio butter; ricotta and grilled peach and the fan favorite: smashed avocado with goat’s feta and pickled chili. There’s also a counter bursting with fresh pastries, as well as an abundance of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options. Regular’s forte, however, is undoubtedly its coffee which, thanks to expert baristas, will be brewed, ground and steamed to perfection every time.

You can get a full range of espresso drinks here, but as an Australian-owned cafe, Regular’s most exciting offering is the flat white. Unfamiliar? Let us explain. A flat white is sort of like a cappuccino, and in fact, it’s frequently confused for one — but the two are not the same. Though the two drinks contain the same amount of espresso, flat whites are served in smaller cups and contain less milk, so they taste much stronger and less frothy than their Italian counterparts. (The best way to learn the difference between a flat white and a cap, according to the owner, is to “come in and find out,” so take that for what you will.)

Regular NYC is located at 19 Rector St. and is open seven days, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.
